Schedule: 7:30AM - 5PM Monday - Thursday, 7:30AM - 2:30PM Friday

Summary
The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.

Position Responsibilities

Experience performing blood draws and labeling specimens.

Perform centrifugation of specimens, record maintenance data, decontamination, and update patient information.

Collect and store specimens according to established procedures, explaining the venipuncture process in a clear, courteous manner.

Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% correctness.

Package specimens for transport.

Store specimens at required temperatures, place them in appropriate containers, accurately label, and follow protocols to maintain specimen integrity during transport.

Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Attend annual department trainings.

Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid phlebotomy certification in the state of employment (as required).

Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipuncture in a fast‑paced laboratory or hospital setting.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

High School Diploma or GED.

Minimum of 1 year of experience in phlebotomy.
