Responsibilities

Patrol University communities (Edwardsville, East St. Louis, and Alton) by car or on foot.

Control and assist the movement of vehicles and pedestrian traffic by physically directing traffic.

Respond to requests for non‑enforcement service assistance.

Identify, investigate, and report hazards that might endanger public safety or property.

Assist other local law‑enforcement agencies as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned to support the department’s mission.

Qualifications

At least two (2) years of full‑time sworn and certified law‑enforcement experience.

Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) or eligibility to be certified.

No disqualifying suspension history with current or most recent employer.

No break in law‑enforcement service of more than three (3) years.

Pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, police records checks, credit checks, and neighbor or employer inquiries.

Successfully complete required screening: polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug screen.

Must serve a 12‑month probationary period upon hire.

Salary
Base pay is determined by years of service and educational degree. Example rates: 0‑2 years - $39.37 (Associate’s), $39.87 (Bachelor’s); 3 years - $40.55 (Associate’s), $41.05 (Bachelor’s); 6 years - $41.73/ $42.23; 9 years - $42.91/ $43.41. Additional $0.50 per hour for EMT certification. Position is non‑exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
