IT Helpdesk / Junior Sysadmin

A recognized institution in Virginia seeks a Jr. Systems Administrator to support day-to-day IT operations and maintain reliable systems across a professional enterprise environment.
About the Opportunity:
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Hours: Standard business
Setting: Onsite
Responsibilities: Troubleshoot and resolve basic system, network, and application issues
Support daily operations across Windows and Linux server environments
Perform routine maintenance, including patching, monitoring, and system health checks
Assist with deploying and configuring servers, applications, and infrastructure components
Manage user accounts, permissions, and basic identity and access requests
Assist with workstation setup, imaging, configuration, and support
Document procedures, system configurations, and troubleshooting steps
Provide escalation support for service desk issues requiring further technical investigation
Follow change management procedures and communicate updates during maintenance activities
Work alongside senior engineers on projects, implementations, and troubleshooting efforts
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related field, or an equivalent technical certification
Internship or post-college technical experience
Foundational understanding of networking concepts, including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, and VLANs
Basic knowledge of Windows Server or Linux administration
Introductory familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud
Experience with scripting fundamentals, particularly PowerShell, through coursework, labs, or professional experience
Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions and collaborate effectively
Willingness to learn new technologies and take on additional technical responsibilities
Desired Skills: Professional technical experience supporting Microsoft 365, Windows Server, virtualization, or related IT infrastructure
Hands-on exposure to virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration, including user provisioning, basic support, and license management
Understanding of security fundamentals, including multifactor authentication, conditional access, and endpoint management
Experience with ticketing systems such as ServiceNow, Jira, or similar platforms Tandym Group
