Job Overview
Grant Thornton is seeking a Risk Management & Independence Manager to join the team. The role is based in our Downers Grove, IL office or Iselin, NJ office, with an international focus to enhance our capabilities and serve clients with global operations. The Independence Consulting Manager will liaise with partners, managing directors, and professionals across the Grant Thornton International member firm network, evaluating new opportunities and existing relationships for independence requirements, and supporting the adoption and development of global independence quality control requirements.

Responsibilities

Consult with PMDs and professionals on the application of independence standards to specific fact situations.

Perform Relationship Checking activities using RCS and monitor independence for large private equity firms with SEC independence.

Support evaluation of services and relationships for Grants Thornton Advisors LLC acquisitions.

Assist in training the independence team in INDUS on AICPA independence standards relating to nonaudit services and business relationships.

Assist in developing firm independence policies and quality control requirements, including documentation and regular updates.

Develop and present technical content for professional training programs.

Maintain and develop independence related resources or publications.

Liaise with representatives of Grant Thornton International and member firms on potential independence matters.

Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis.

Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as needed.

Conduct personal compliance activities, including monitoring investment account transitions and evaluating financial relationships.

Assist in monitoring annual certification processes and reviewing filing alerts for independence safeguards.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing competing priorities in a fast‑paced, interactive global team environment.

Qualifications

Five or more years of experience in the accounting profession, preferably in a national or independence office; CPA required.

Excellent analytical, technical, and professional skills with understanding of international accounting and consulting firm businesses.

Ability to acquire, synthesize, and present technical information clearly.

Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Strong Microsoft Word skills required; experience with PowerPoint, Excel, and other Office products.

Strong project planning skills and ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.

High attention to detail and ability to work on highly technical material.

Willingness to work additional hours as needed and limited travel.

Salary
Downers Grove, IL: $104,000 - $156,000 per year.

Iselin, NJ: $112,000 - $168,500 per year.
