Head of Recruiting & HR

Position Summary We are looking for an experienced HR Director to lead all human resources functions for approximately 200 employees across multiple branches and sites. This role sets HR strategy, keeps every division compliant, and serves as the trusted advisor to ownership and site leaders. The HR Director leads a team of three: an HR Manager, a Payroll Manager, and a Recruiting Assistant.

Lead, coach, and develop the HR team: HR Manager, Payroll Manager, and Recruiting Assistant.

Build and carry out an HR plan that supports each company's growth and workforce needs.
Advise owners and site leaders on staffing, organizational structure, and people decisions.
Standardize HR policies and processes across companies while respecting each business's separate needs and records.

Employee relations and culture
Serve as the escalation point for employee relations issues, investigations, and disciplinary actions.
Build consistent onboarding, performance review, and offboarding practices across all sites.
Support retention through engagement, recognition, and training programs.
Payroll, compensation, and benefits
Manage compensation structure, pay reviews, and wage-and-hour classification.
Recruiting and workforce planning
Direct recruiting for field, plant, office, and management roles through the Recruiting Assistant.
Track hiring needs, time to fill, and turnover by company and site.
Compliance and risk
Keep all companies compliant with federal, state, and local employment laws, including the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) rules, and I-9 employment eligibility requirements.
Partner with safety leaders on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance and workers' compensation claims.
Manage required reporting, such as EEO-1 and Affordable Care Act (ACA) filings, and maintain accurate personnel files.
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

6+ years of progressive HR experience, including at least 2 years in an HR leadership role.
Experience supporting multiple, locations, or business units at the same time.
Experience managing and developing an HR team.
Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment law and payroll compliance.
Experience with multi-entity payroll and HR systems; Clear communicator who can work with owners, office staff, and field employees.
CDL / DOT driver education experience

Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP) or HR Certification Institute (PHR or SPHR) certification.
Experience in construction, manufacturing, building materials, or energy services.
Experience with a skilled-trades or hourly workforce.
