Travel ICU RN - Night Shift RN

TNAA TotalMed RN is seeking a travel nurse RN (CVPICU) for a 13‑week assignment in Durham, North Carolina, in our Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU). This role involves 12‑hour night shifts, totaling 36 hours per week.

Pay: 12‑hour shifts with tax‑free stipend (amount to be determined)

Responsibilities

Provide direct care to pediatric patients with cardiovascular conditions, including those recovering from heart surgery, congenital heart defects, or severe arrhythmias.

Continuously monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, oxygenation, and other critical parameters; assess patients for changes and respond appropriately.

Administer medications (including IV drips, blood products, and sedatives) according to protocol, monitor for side effects, and adjust dosages as needed.

Assist with ventilator management and airway management, including non‑invasive and invasive respiratory support.

Assist with cardiac procedures such as intra‑aortic balloon pump (IABP), external pacemakers, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) under cardiology team direction.

Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients’ families, provide updates on condition, care plan, prognosis, and education.

Respond swiftly to cardiac and respiratory emergencies, including code situations and rapid interventions.

Collaborate with pediatric cardiologists, surgeons, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.

Document patient assessments, interventions, changes in condition, and family interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).

Educate families and caregivers on post‑operative care, recovery expectations, and signs of complications.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 1 year of experience in a PCICU or similar critical care setting.

Valid PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support) certifications.

Eligibility for state licensure in North Carolina.

Ready to stand or walk for extended periods; able to bend, stoop and lift with proper body mechanics.

Exceptional critical thinking skills, strong communication abilities, and compassion under pressure.

Additional certifications may be required before the assignment.
