The Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional responsible for coordinating patient care delivery by the healthcare team.
Using the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems.
The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response.
Promoting safe passage for their patients is essential, as the RN utilizes knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment.
The RN is responsible for assisting patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays.
Delegation of interventions to healthcare personnel is based on the nursing practice act, each patient's condition, and the competencies of the employee.
Registered Nurses work in hospital inpatient and outpatient departments with 24/7 staffing.

Developing, implementing, and evaluating the nursing plan of care.
Systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
Recognizing and incorporating a patient's unique differences into an individualized plan of care.
Facilitating learning for patients, families, and nursing staff throughout the continuum of care.
Collaborating with colleagues and the community to implement integrated plans of care.
Improving nursing practice and the work environment through shared governance and decision-making processes.
Participating in continuing education, networking, and professional growth.

Understanding nursing and patient care standards and procedures.
Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations regarding nursing care.
Familiarity with medical terminology and principles of health promotion and disease prevention.
Ability to communicate thoughts clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to observe changes in patients' medical conditions and effectively communicate these changes.
Providing age-specific, quality, patient-centered care while respecting diversity.
General computer skills, including electronic medical documentation and email.
