Job Summary
Electricians install and repair all phases of residential and industrial electrical work at shops, stations, yards, and facilities, including wiring, lighting, conduit, motors and controls, oil burners, elevators, switch heaters, and other equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Inspect, install, repair, and maintain electrical components on all platform and station locations along the H&H lines, including lighting, digital signs, ticket machines, ATMs, HVAC, conduit, and circuitry.

Ground metal objects onto train platforms through exothermic welding to ensure customer safety.

Maintain lighting, HVAC unit breakers, and electrical panels in buildings, shops, substations, and drawbridges.

Install conduit ranging from ½" to 4" diameter on structures and yard locations, using hand or machine benders; pull wires and cables to complete circuits.

Read and interpret prints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.

Perform electrical work, including switching, testing, and repairs on live line systems up to 600 V, and attend mandatory trainings to maintain qualifications.

Perform roadway worker duties (e.g., look‑out) to ensure work group safety.

Recognize electrical hazards and use appropriate PPE; assess situations to identify hazards and take safety precautions.

Obtain electrical clearances and provide lock‑out/tag‑out protection.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Minimum high school diploma, GED, or TASC.

Vocational and/or apprentice training in residential or industrial electrical work or at least two years of experience performing such work.

Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience performing residential or industrial electrical work.

Licensed NYS electrician or equivalent.

Special Requirements
Position is safety sensitive and subject to toxicology testing.

Rate of Pay
Annual wage progression for the general rate: Year 1 - 65%, Year 2 - 70%, Year 3 - 75%, Year 4 - 80%, Year 5 - 92%, Year 6 - 100%. For journeyman rate qualifications, progression is Year 1 - 80%, Year 2 - 85%, Year 3 - 100% of full rate.
