The Client T&M ADG (Aerospace, Defense, Government Business Unit) Customer Centric Solutions team is seeking to hire an experienced Mechanical Drafter to work on custom engineering opportunities that enable the sale of standard NI Products. The primary responsibilities of this position are to work with NI customers, engineering teams, and contract manufacturers to define, document, design and deploy NI products tailored to meet specific customer requirements for large scale turnkey engineering solutions. The ideal candidate works closely with electrical and mechanical engineers to gather system and structural requirements to calculate dimensions, weight limitations, and material requirements, then create detailed designs using CAD software.

This is a multi-functional role dealing with diverse engineering needs, including the ability to gather requirements, generate specification documents, interface with contract manufacturers and internal personnel to create custom mechanical designs needed for the system. Generating custom mechanical drawings and designs and Bill of Materials

Designing/modeling /prototyping mechanical system components for test and measurement solutions

Traveling as needed (possibly up to 25%) domestically and abroad in support of project objectives

BS Degree: in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics

Minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience in a Mechanical Drafting Role

Thorough understanding of fundamental mechanical design principles and processes

In-depth knowledge of 2D & 3D design tools i.e. CREO, Pro/E, SolidWorks

Familiar with thermal analysis and stress analysis

Knowledge of fabrication techniques, (machining, stamping, extrusion, casting, sheet metal layout, etc.)

Basic knowledge of electrical design principles i.e. grounding, shielding, cable design

Be detail-oriented, have a strong understanding of building processes, and possess excellent technical drafting skills

Persistently drive tasks and lead projects to successful completion
