Archaeologist (Part-time)

Position Summary Mid‑Career Staff Archaeologist with 3–5 years of CRM field experience in California, leading office‑based and field compliance efforts for major utilities, and supporting all phases of cultural resource management.

Responsibilities Serve as a key team member (office/field) on major utilities compliance contracts and other projects.

Support pedestrian surveys, test excavations, data recovery, and construction monitoring.

Prepare and submit reporting (CEQA/Section 106), tracking, execution, and review of projects.

Assist in project planning, scheduling, and logistics for field efforts.

Oversee and mentor junior field staff, ensuring work meets professional standards.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local cultural resource regulations (Section 106, CEQA, NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA).

Coordinate with project managers, agency representatives, tribal monitors, and construction crews as needed.

Follow health and safety protocols for field operations.

Capabilities Detail‑oriented problem solver with a positive attitude and strong organizational skills.

Willingness to learn, flexibility in assignments, and strong communication skills to work effectively as part of a team.

Knowledge of CEQA and Section 106.

Intermediate familiarity with OHP guidelines, standard reporting formats, and California Department of Parks and Recreation 523 site forms.

Strong technical writing skills (DPR forms, field summaries, and technical reports), with proficiency in Word and Excel.

Knowledge of California/Great Basin archaeology.

Qualifications and Experience Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field (Required).

3–5 years of CRM field experience in California (Required).

Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) – Preferred, not required.

Experience leading small field teams and mentoring junior staff.

Experience conducting survey, construction monitoring, excavation, and artifact analysis.

Experience recording archaeological sites and completing DPR 523 forms.

Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Other Requirements Typical office environment working with computers for long periods.

Field work may include exposure to elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ Areas – Min Salary $57,800 – Max Salary $83,700.

WA, DC & Various CA areas – Min Salary $62,000 – Max Salary $89,800.
