Mental Health Counselor (Weekends)

Relief Counselor I – The City of Roanoke is seeking an individual to monitor a caseload of juvenile offenders who have been court ordered to comply with the Outreach Detention Program. The incumbent exercises independent judgment and initiative in the day‑to‑day monitoring of the assigned caseload, demonstrating a thorough familiarity with agency functions and basic knowledge of community resources. All contacts with clients and other professionals are documented. The role receives general supervision and guidance from the Outreach Detention Coordinator and requires weekend and holiday work.

Responsibilities

Monitor the assigned caseload of juvenile offenders.

Exercise independent judgment and initiative in daily monitoring activities.

Maintain familiarity with agency functions and community resources.

Document all contacts with clients and other professionals.

Receive general supervision and guidance from the Outreach Detention Coordinator.

Work on weekends and holidays as required.

Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

Six months to one year related experience and/or training in human development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Possession of all requirements prescribed by State regulations (CPR, first aid, restraint, substance abuse certification).

Valid Virginia state driver’s license.

Clear all criminal background investigations (State Police, CPS, FBI fingerprint).
