Medical Records (CNA)

Performs medical, clerical, and reception duties to support the physician in the examination and treatment of patients in an outpatient setting. Perform duties in support of the University's and the school's mission and in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures. As directed by physicians, administers vaccinations and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections in limited circumstances, which may be delegated under State Regulations.
Prepares exam room and sterilizes medical instruments and equipment for tests and procedures.
Taking history and chief complaint
Performs diagnostic tests per physicians' standing orders such as EKG, Blood work, Vision and hearing screening, Urine dip, PFT's.
Collects and prepares laboratory specimens for analysis.
Assists with minor surgical procedures and wound care.
Assures patient's outside testing results are in the chart for physician review with patient.
Documents clinical information in chart or EMR system.
Provides clinical care in accordance with training and under supervisor's direction.
Maintains and cleans office medical equipment as required.
Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records.
Answer phone calls and address patient inquiries with a pleasant and helpful demeanor.
Handle billing and coding for insurance purposes.
Verifies demographics and insurance information and updates in billing system.
Verifies patient's insurance through insurance lists and/or via insurance websites.
Completes batches as scheduled and prepares the deposit for pickup.
Retrieves referrals for appropriate visits and enters them into the billing system.
Ensures the cleanliness and organization of the exam rooms and clinic areas.
Maintains inventory of front office supplies and notifies supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
Arranges for patient care services at other facilities, including surgeries, preadmission testing, etc.
Coordinates requests for prescriptions from patients, provides chart to physician, telephones prescriptions at the direction of the physicians, and makes notation in the patient chart with date and signature.
Maintains a professional and orderly office appearance.
Maintains a customer-focused approach to all responsibilities.
Attends all mandatory in-service and training as directed.
Maintains competence in all applicable office computer systems.
Supports and adheres to the University policies regarding HIPAA and confidentiality.
Assists with the orientation and training of new employees as requested.

High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Certification from a recognized certifying body (e.g., Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques required.
Strong knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications: At least one year of previous experience working as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
Familiarity with EPIC.
Ability to lift and move medical equipment and supplies.
Manual dexterity to handle instruments and perform medical procedures.
Must be able to communicate well with internal and external customers, sometimes under stressful circumstances.
Exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
May require evening, weekend, or holiday shifts depending on the clinic's hours of operation.
Shift: Monday - Friday, days
Contract: 13-weeks, with possible extensions or temp-perm.
