This is an independent, professional, Medical Laboratory Scientist position in the specialty of Serology/Immunology at the Bureau of Public Health Laboratories in Jacksonville. The incumbent must have the knowledge and skills to communicate with physicians, as well as other health professionals. for the laboratory confirmation of Syphilis, Hepatitis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and performs amplified molecular procedures for the detection of Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and Hepatitis C. Incumbent will be lead tech including special tests, pilot studies such as grants, or other projects as needed. Incumbent performs accessioning, screening, or diagnostic testing of clinical specimens daily, and reports results utilizing the Laboratory Information System (LIMS). Incumbent reviews and approves test results on LIMS and ensures the confidentiality of laboratory records and reports.

Incumbent is responsible for performing all necessary quality control related to tests performed, maintaining accurate records, and correctly reporting results utilizing LIS. Incumbent ensures the confidentiality of laboratory records and reports. The incumbent must motivate employees to improve and maintain high quality and quantity of work performed to confirm with all current protocols, rules, and regulations regarding laboratory safety, as well as abiding by all state and federal laws that pertain to the employees, including quality control, quality assurance and competency assessments. Also, in the absence of the administrator, the incumbent may perform duties for the operation of the serology/immunology program. The incumbent serves as consultant in serology/immunology to the Bureau of Laboratories three branch laboratories, as well as to county health departments, STD clinics, and private physicians.

Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques used in testing.

Skilled in the use of scientific laboratory equipment.

Minimum - FL Clinical Laboratory Technologist, FL Clinical Laboratory Technician or Public Health Technician License in Serology or Microbiology
