Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 12-week Emergency Department travel contract at a Level III Trauma, STEMI, and Stroke Receiving facility in College Station, TX, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and active ACLS, BLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications.
Details

• Acute care hospital emergency department setting with 18 beds including 4 critical rooms used for trauma and codes
• Level III Trauma Center, STEMI Receiving, and Stroke Receiving facility
• Fast Track area with 6 beds; separate triage area staffed by travelers
• Holds are intermixed within the ED — ER nurses are responsible for the care of hold patients
• 1 dedicated psych/seclusion room; RNs are not responsible for setting up psychiatric placement
• Patient mix includes pediatric cases (only area hospital admitting peds), cardiac/STEMI, strokes, trauma, abdominal pain, respiratory, GI, and general ER presentations
• Average daily volume of approximately 70 patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4 depending on acuity
• Common drips include pressors, sedation, and other standard ED infusions
• RNs are responsible for performing EKGs and reading/interpreting cardiac monitor strips (no monitor techs on unit)
• RNs troubleshoot ventilators and respiratory equipment (Nasal Cannula through vents); RT handles ABGs, breathing treatments, and vent management
• Phlebotomy draws labs; X-Ray and CT are located nearby with transport assistance available
• Charting via MEDITECH
• 12-hour day and evening shifts; day and night shifts start at 6:45, mid-shifts start at 9, 11, 1, or 3
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays worked into the permanent staff rotation
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Travelers are first to float, though floating is uncommon; float assignments are in a helper capacity

Requirements

Active TX RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
Current, active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
Minimum 2 years of emergency department experience required
Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (83% passing score) prior to contract signing; three attempts are allowed
Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered

First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Orientation consists of 1–3 shifts depending on experience, with a checkoff packet to complete with a preceptor
The unit has 2 PCTs per shift who may occasionally be pulled to serve as sitters
Charge nurses are generally patient-free; MDs are in-house 24/7 with midlevels staggered during busy periods
Security is on-site 24/7 and rounds through the ED
Scrub color is navy; undershirts must also be navy, and optional scrub jackets must be navy as well
Call-outs are strongly discouraged and may result to termination
Matrix scheduling is used; the facility tries to accommodate traveler scheduling needs
