Dietician and Nutrition Coordinator

The Dietitian/Bariatric Coordinator provides nutrition education and counseling to clinic patients and patient groups. The role assesses the nutritional needs of outpatients, develops and implements nutrition care plans, and creates programs for the general public, community organizations, and professional staff. The Coordinator works directly with the MBS Director, attends required meetings (including the annual comprehensive review), assists in program development, manages the accreditation process, ensures compliance with MBSAQIP Standards, and educates team members on metabolic and bariatric patient safety. The Coordinator must be present and actively participate in each MBSAQIP site visit for the current center.

Certified Registered Dietitian (RD) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)

Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist in Illinois (IDFPR)

Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics

Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition

Relevant work experience in a bariatric or outpatient nutrition setting

Provide nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy integrated with patients’ medical goals.

Identify and provide age‑specific nutrition counseling tailored to the cultural needs of patients and their families.

Evaluate, interpret, monitor, and document patients’ nutritional status using established standards of care and practice guidelines.

Develop, review, update, and implement educational materials for patients and professionals.

Perform pre‑operative nutrition assessment and documentation for patients seeking weight‑loss surgery.

Provide pre‑operative weight‑management and nutritional education for patients seeking weight‑loss surgery.

Educate patients on dietary guidelines for the immediate post‑operative period after weight‑loss surgery.

Provide ongoing patient education for diet advancement and continued weight management after surgery.

Lead a Bariatric Information Seminar to provide information regarding weight‑loss surgery in a group setting.

The compensation range for this position is $26.10 per hour to $43.59 per hour. The actual compensation offered will depend on factors such as the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked, and compensation model.
