Madden Industrial Craftsmen is looking for a Certified Structural Welder for a client located in St. Helens, Oregon. THIS IS A TEMPORARY PROJECT THROUGH JANUARY 2027.

Job Opening: Certified Structural Welder (Heavy Plate Fabrication)

Pay Rate: $30.00-$35.00 per hour, DOE
Project Duration: Immediate start through mid-January
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM
Required Certification: AWS D1.1

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced, AWS D1.1-certified Structural Welder with a strong background in heavy plate fabrication and high-strength structural connections. Qualified candidates will perform high-quality, multi-pass welds using 1/16-inch diameter Dual Shield flux-cored welding wire .

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience performing Complete Joint Penetration (CJP) groove welds on thick-gauge steel, including material up to 4 inches thick and beyond.
This position requires excellent puddle control, strict adherence to preheat and interpass temperature requirements, and the ability to produce sound, defect-free welds that meet AWS D1.1 structural welding standards and pass 100% ultrasonic (UT) and radiographic (RT) non-destructive testing.
Key Responsibilities
Perform structural welding on heavy plate steel using 1/16-inch Dual Shield wire.
Execute CJP groove welds on thick steel sections, including plates 4 inches thick and greater.
Follow AWS D1.1 welding codes, approved welding procedures, and project specifications.
Maintain proper preheat and interpass temperatures throughout the welding process.
Produce high-quality, multi-pass welds with excellent penetration, fusion, and consistency.
Ensure welds meet stringent quality requirements for 100% UT and RT inspection.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
Qualifications
Current AWS D1.1 welding certification required.
Proven experience in structural welding and heavy plate fabrication.
Strong proficiency with Dual Shield flux-cored welding processes.
Experience with CJP groove welds and multi-pass welding on thick steel.
Knowledge of preheat, interpass temperature control, and structural welding quality standards.
Ability to produce welds that meet rigorous non-destructive testing requirements.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.

Project Details

The project is scheduled to continue through mid-January.

Compensation: $30.00-$35.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
