Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 1 trauma center, requiring ACLS, PALS/ENPC, and TNCC certifications along with an active IL RN license.

Details

Level 1 trauma center Emergency Department with 65 private beds and 2 trauma bays

Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3-5 based on acuity and department needs

Cares for a wide variety of patients from newborns to the elderly, including critically ill patients, cardiac arrests, strokes, and heart attacks

Level 1/2 trauma patients are managed by a specialized trauma team; travelers may care for these patients once stabilized and transferred to a pod

Evening shift 1P-1A, 12-hour shifts, 48 hours per week

EPIC EMR used

Weekend rotation every other weekend, with Sat/Sun or Fri/Sat depending on shift

Holiday coverage required every other holiday or per department needs, negotiable via contract

No on-call or standby requirements

Rare floating possible as a 'help all' to other units, not typically for travelers

Respiratory therapists assist with ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow equipment, though RNs may troubleshoot

Monitor tech available, but RNs must be able to interpret and act on cardiac rhythms

Radiology or transport staff handle X-ray and CT transport

Nurses and techs draw labs; phlebotomy may assist for boarders

Requirements

Active IL RN license required, or license application must be initiated

Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, and TNCC or TNS

At least 1 prior travel assignment preferred

SANE RN experience preferred

Experience at a teaching hospital preferred

Proficiency with vasopressor, cardiac, and antihypertensive drip titration required

Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels as part of OSF's Drug-Free Campus policy

Additional Information

Work alongside a minimum of 3 attending physicians at all times, varying by shift

Two charge nurses per shift manage incoming patients/telemetry radios and department needs, occasionally assisting with trauma or critical patients

24/7 house supervisor support available

ED techs support nursing staff at a 1:9 ratio

Travelers do not self-schedule; schedules are set by the scheduling manager with time-off requests considered when possible

Block scheduling available, often resulting in patterns such as 2 on/4 off or 6 consecutive shifts

No specific scrub color required, but attire should be tasteful with solid colored shirts underneath

First-time travelers may be considered given required experience and certifications are met

Local rate applies for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility, though no radius rule restricts eligibility

COVID vaccination is not required for this position
