Job Description - Histotechnologist (PRN/As Needed) (7446-3925)

Rockdale Medical Center

Processes pathology specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist. Reports to Lab Manager. FLSA: Non‑exempt.

Responsibilities

Assists with processing specimens through cutting/microtomy; embedding/fixation; staining; cover slipping; gross exam; and cytology processing.

Maintains work area in a safe, aseptic, and organized manner.

Communicates test results to appropriate healthcare providers.

Patient Experience: Employee shall endeavor to provide a superior patient experience.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Clinical education in a histotechnician (HT) program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) OR an Associate Degree from a Community College AND training at a hospital.

Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Knowledge of theory and practice of all phases of histology and anatomic pathology.

Certifications: Histology Technologist as recognized by Georgia personnel rules; HTL (ASCP). Will accept graduate of a school of histologic technique who must pass registry within 6 months of start date.
