Salina, KS Hospitalist Nocturnist Physician Locum Tenens
2027 Coverage | 7 PM–7 AM | Average 4–5 Nightly Admissions | Flexible Coverage Blocks
Rhino Medical is leading the charge in seeking experienced Internal Medicine or Family Medicine Hospitalist Physicians for ongoing Nocturnist locum tenens coverage in Salina, Kansas . This opportunity offers flexible scheduling throughout 2027, a manageable average overnight admission volume, and the opportunity to practice within an established regional hospital supported by extensive medical and surgical specialty resources.
We are seeking a clinically confident physician comfortable independently managing overnight inpatient care, including admissions, nursing calls, codes, and urgent clinical situations. Physicians with ICU experience, ventilator management familiarity, and procedural capabilities will be particularly well suited for this assignment, although routine procedures are not required.

Shift Duration: 12 Hours | In-House Coverage
Average Nightly Admissions: Hospitalist Service Census: Coverage Model: One Nocturnist Physician Onsite Overnight
Overnight Clinical Responsibilities
Provide dedicated Hospital Medicine coverage from 7 PM to 7 AM
Manage overnight admissions, averaging approximately 4–5 per night
Respond to nursing calls, codes, clinical alerts, and changes in patient condition
Provide overnight coverage for hospitalized patients, including patients with ICU status
Evaluate and manage urgent inpatient clinical situations
Remain onsite for the entirety of each scheduled 12-hour shift
Coordinate with Emergency Medicine and available specialty resources when additional assistance is needed
ICU Coverage & Procedural Expectations
The hospital operates an 18-bed open ICU with intensivist coverage. The Nocturnist may be called to assist with ICU patients requiring ventilator management or other urgent interventions.
Comfort with ventilated patients and ICU-level care is strongly preferred
Procedures are not routinely required, but physicians comfortable performing them are preferred
Emergency Department physicians are available to assist with emergent situations when needed

- Average hospital census of approximately 150–160 patients
- Level III Trauma Center
- 18-bed open ICU with intensivist coverage
- 24/7 cardiothoracic surgery and neurosurgery availability
- Additional specialties including oncology, neurology, and orthopedic surgery
- Medical education and teaching opportunities in the community

Physician Requirements
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
Active Kansas medical license or ability to obtain licensure
Active, unrestricted DEA registration
Recent Hospitalist or Nocturnist experience
Comfortable independently managing overnight inpatient admissions, calls, and clinical emergencies
Experience with ICU-level patients strongly preferred
