At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.Job Purpose/OverviewThe Histology Laboratory Technician performs laboratory analyses and tests. In addition, they prepare samples, set up instruments, run tests interpret, and release test results.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Embed samples by orientating tissues in molds and adding Parafin waxProvide quality embedding, accurately embed a minimum of up to 60 blocks per hour, unloading Tissue Processer, scan barcoded cassette in Antrim for the appropriate worklistMaintain embedding station as required per Standard Operating Procedure and accepted protocolsMeet minimum department production goalsPrioritize stat and manifest blocksReconcile all Antrim pending list for any work completedOperate Roche Benchmark special stain instrumentPerform manual stains as requiredCalibrate and run Quality Control on the machines and assist with daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of the machines.Exercises judgment in evaluating and reporting results.Report any technical/QC problems to their lead tech or supervisor.Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/labFollows applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality proceduresMaintains clean and organized work area. Antech Diagnostics has several processes in place to communicate with leadership and expects that associates will have a commitment to integrity and uncompromising values.Education and ExperienceHigh School diploma or equivalent required, B.S in Biology or Life Sciences preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesLaboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and operating lab instrumentsKnowledge of medical and laboratory terminology and Histology procedures and equipmentAttention to detail and organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentEffective communication skills and ability to exchange accurate information.Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings, accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions.Ability to work independently and as part of a teamPositive, can-do attitudePersonal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft OfficeWorking ConditionsStationary Position- must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.Occasionally required to bend, kneel, stoop, or crouchMay be required to lift, move, and carry up to 20 lbs.The ability to observe details at close range.Extended hours may be neededLaboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE.Work under close to moderate supervisionPotential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard Communication Standards.
