Teacher Assistant

The Teacher Assistant role is responsible for providing classroom support to the Lead Teacher and completing daily tasks within a classroom environment.

~ Schools: Assist teachers with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities.
Support students by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring daily, and small group intervention and student support with the potential of teaching small groups of students.
Provide administrative support including but not limited to copies, hallway duty, organizing classroom materials, etc.
Aids Lead Teacher in planning and presenting lessons and helps students learn.
Participate in grade-level activities and school-wide functions, events, and trips.
Help students adjust, learn, socialize, and report to teachers about possible behavioral issues.
Supervise students during transitions, breakfast, lunch, and after school.
Participating in annual three-week staff orientation and training.
Partner with the SPED Team to review material taught in class with individual students who require additional support.
Assist Lead Teacher by problem-solving and making timely determinations with classroom issues solution-focused.
Responsible for managing and reducing risk within the classroom with the support of the Lead teacher and seeking assistance when needed to resolve the matter.
Complies with all federal, state, local laws and regulations, including those of the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
Adheres to organization policies and procedures; promotes and supports mission, vision, and values, including developing and participating in internal surveys and data collection for continuous improvement initiatives.
Perform other duties as outlined by School Leadership.

Complies with all charter, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the NYS Department of Education, Department of Health, and NYS Office of Children and Family Services

Education and Experience

High School Diploma/GED required
Valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certification or willingness to pursue state certification, preferred
Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.

Prolonged periods were spent sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed.
The employee needs to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Dexterity requires writing and operating standard office machines such as computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, phones, and calculators.

Salaries are determined using an equitable compensation scale that accounts for years of experience relevant to the role and longevity within the KIPP network.
