Senior Counselor (Part-Time)

An Overview The Senior Residential Counselor (SRC) provides supervision of residential counselors to ensure the individuals who live in the home are provided with quality care, supports and instruction in daily living skills based on the individual’s treatment plan. The SRC provides oversight of daily operations and service provision to individuals with serious mental illness, substance use disorders and/or a co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder. Oversees program management of the home by maintaining resident records in accordance with HIPPA standards, assures program site is clean, safe and in good repair. The SRC monitors compliance with State licensing, City and department policies and regulations.

What You Should Bring The ideal candidate should have thorough knowledge of Intellectual Disability, mental illness, and substance abuse and experience in providing behavioral health services to these populations. Thorough knowledge of City, State, and Federal policies and procedures, rules and license requirements for program operations or the ability to acquire such knowledge; ability to assist in developing and implementing program policies, procedures, and plans; ability to provide supervision, guidance, assistance, and training to residential staff; ability to implement and monitor Federal and State standards for quality assurance compliance; good knowledge of best practice standards in residential services for adults with Intellectual Disability, substance abuse treatment; ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing

Meets with supervisees for both individual and group supervision.

Maintains the staff schedule to ensure all shifts are covered.

Coordinates with supervisees to ensure that food and all other items required for the residence are purchased on a weekly basis, within the budgetary requirements.

Ensures that residents are provided with services in accordance with the goals and objectives on the treatment plan

Documents client services, supports and interventions in the clinical record and oversees the quality of supervisees’ documentation.

Ensures counselors maintain required training and certifications.

approves and monitors use of overtime.

Maintains current policies and procedures manuals at the residence.

Develops and maintains rapport with neighbors and other community members

Attends and participates in monthly supervision meetings.

Utilize and maintain a City credit card to purchase food and household supplies, etc. About The Department The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders.

two years experience working with clients with intellectual disabilities, mental illness, Substance Abuse Disorder or domestic violence in a residential setting and supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Preferred Qualifications Four year college degree in Human Service or a related field; two years working in a residential setting with clients diagnosed with substance use disorder(s), serious mental illness and/or co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder. VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00AM - 5:00PM with occasional evenings, weekends, holidays.
