• The Perfusionist operates extracorporeal circulation equipment to support or replace cardiopulmonary, circulatory, or respiratory function. Selects the right equipment and techniques for treatment, measurement, or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system. Ensures the sterility and integrity of disposable equipment packaging. Ensures correct setup and breakdown of all equipment.

Monitors cell saver and operates the heart-lung machine, blood gas examination machine, clotting time/heparin analyzer, and cardiac-help devices.

Follows industry best practices and established policies and procedures.

Adjusts gas flow and mixtures. Records relevant perfusion information during surgery; evaluates and maintains records after surgery.

Performs quality control/preventive maintenance to ensure accuracy and longevity of equipment. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies.

Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, chemistry and biology.

Knowledge of sterile and perfusion supplies: extracorporeal oxygenators, tubing circuits, and cannulae for adult, pediatric and infants.

Knowledge of arteries, veins, organs, and specific blood flow paths in the body, including pressures and gas exchange in adult, pediatric, and infant patients.

Skill in operating extracorporeal circulation and autotransfusion equipment.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively during operation of extracorporeal help devices and providing patient care.

Learn and apply regulatory and accreditation standards for operating room procedures and departmental policies.

Ability to work and join in a flexible way in the delivery of patient care demonstrating a cohesive team approach.

Ability to react calmly in stressful situations.

EDUCATION - Bachelor's

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Cert Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) Licensed Perfusionist (PERFUSIO) Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.
