Janitor/Facilities Maintenance (Full-Time)

Job Description

Purpose Statement: The job of Custodian is done for the purpose/s of creating an attractive, sanitary and safe campus for students, staff and public; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.

Directly responsible to: Facilities Director

Essential Functions

Arranges furnishings and equipment for meetings, classroom activities and special events.

Assists with other work during the summer such as painting, caulking, staining, sanding, floor strips, waxing, shampooing carpets, moving furniture, removing graffiti.

Attends in‑service training on blood‑borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, maintenance procedures.

Cleans assigned school facilities (classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, grounds). Maintains a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.

Inspects facilities to ensure safe operations and identify necessary repairs.

Manages heating and cooling systems and performs minor electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs.

Maintains supplies and equipment (cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops) for proper facility maintenance.

Performs preventative maintenance and repairs/replacements of broken glass, toilets, carpets, door handles, faucets, light fixtures, etc.

Prepares facility for daily operations (opens gates, controls building access).

Responds to immediate safety concerns (damage, alarms, graffiti) and takes appropriate action to resolve issues.

Lift 100 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.

Climb and descend ladders up to 50 feet.

Stand for an 8‑hour shift and perform repetitive motions such as mopping, sweeping, dumping garbage cans, cleaning and scrubbing restrooms.

Operate power equipment, hand tools, buffers, polishers.

Perform minor electrical repairs on ballasts, switches, outlets, and minor plumbing repairs.

Shovel snow and ice when required.

Other Functions

Assists other personnel as required.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Operate industrial cleaning equipment and adhere to safety practices. Basic math, written procedures, and clear communication. Knowledge of health standards, cleaning methods, safety practices, and procedures. Ability to schedule activities, collate data, use job‑related equipment, communicate with diverse groups, display mechanical aptitude, meet deadlines, set priorities, work as a team, adapt to changing priorities and interruptions.

Responsibility: Work under direct supervision using standardized procedures, provide information/advice, operate within a defined budget.

Job Functions: Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine finger dexterity. Roughly 10% sitting, 40% walking, 50% standing. Work may involve temperature extremes and hazardous conditions.

Experience: Job‑related experience desired.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance, Drug Screening, Basic Work Physical.

Position Type: Full‑Time

Salary: $25.18 to $28 Per Hour
