Night Shift Emergency RN

RN CVICU - Contract, in‑office in San Luis Obispo, CA. Night shift: experience in Medical ICU/Trauma ICU, Neuro ICU. Responsible for planning, coordination, and provision of nursing care to patients in the critical care setting.
Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel commensurate with scope of practice.
Applies critical care nursing knowledge to patients with multi‑system failure requiring ventilation, neuro/trauma, respiratory failure, and hemodynamic monitoring.

Provide appropriate nursing interventions for stable and emergent patient situations.

Intravenous therapy, including blood products.

Care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains.

Safe use of any medical equipment in the critical care setting.

Understand and follow chain of command per policy.

Accurately interprets ECG rhythm and manages care of patients during life‑threatening emergencies in populations served.

Verifies alarm settings with monitor technician according to policy.

Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, making recommendations for best monitoring based on patient presentation.

Provides care and management for patients requiring ICP and ventriculostomy monitoring.

Provides care and management for patients requiring pulmonary artery monitoring catheters and arterial pressure monitoring catheters.

Manages mechanical ventilation and other ventilatory support devices, e.g., CPAP mask, Bi‑PAP mask, High Flow O2 mask.

Applies knowledge of multisystem alteration principles and its impact on physiological functions, developmental tasks and mental processing of adults and elder populations.

Initiates multidisciplinary, goal‑oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with the healthcare team and provides care based on that plan.

Educates patients and/or their families regarding care, using appropriate teaching methods by age, condition, culture, and learning readiness.

Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluation of patient’s response to medications, treatments, and procedures.

Consistently performs unit‑specific safety and quality control checks (shift and 24‑hr MD order checks, VO/TO read‑back, crash cart checks, urine QC, refrigeration logs and out‑date checks).

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).

Passing completion of a Critical Care Nursing course (required).

Six months of previous critical care experience (preferred).

Current RN license in state of practice (required).

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) - required within 1 year of hire or transfer into the department (current employees have 2 years to complete).
