LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE, PART-TIME (MENTAL HEALTH)

The Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) has an opening for a part-time Licensed Practical Nurse for the Health Care Center in Rocky Hill.

Part-time, 24 hours per week, 1st shift, 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM

Week 2: Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Professional growth and development opportunities

Assists medical staff in the general care and treatment of individuals

Documents and transcribes medication orders and performs narcotic counts

Monitors individual health needs by taking and charting vital signs and reporting condition changes

Provides basic nursing treatments such as applying topical medications and performing catheter care

In a state facility this class is accountable for rendering bedside care or mental health services to individuals with physical disabilities and/or an intellectual disability in instances where the services of a registered nurse are not required.

Assists doctors and nurses in the general care and treatment of individuals;

Documents medications using appropriate forms;

Reports changes in individuals to doctors;

Transcribes doctors medication orders;

Dispenses certain medications in doctor’s absence;

Performs simple nursing treatments;

Monitors general individual needs including personal hygiene;

Keeps the unit safe and healthy;

Performs Foley catheterization care;

May perform emergency first aid;
