Oncology Ambulatory Care Nurse

Registered Nurse Oncology

Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could possibly lead to a cancel and do not reschedule. RNs will field patient calls and messages regarding patient cancer diagnosis and treatment. RNs will address inquiries about medications, chemotherapy side effects, lab and radiology results. RNs will manage patient schedules, referrals, and orders as directed by the provider. Clinical care skills needed include knowledge of bladder and kidney cancers, ear, nose, throat cancers, melanoma, and prostate cancer. IV therapy and infusion skills include accessing ports, administering coagulation factors, and central line blood draw. Medication management skills involving antiemetics, antibiotics, and hormonal therapy are also required. RNs should be prepared to manage oncologic emergencies, including anaphylaxis and sepsis. Professional knowledge and skills needed include Foley catheter insertion and phlebotomy skills. Psychosocial care skills should encompass advanced directives and patient education. Post-surgical care knowledge is also essential. Patient age group includes adults and geriatrics. Patient diagnoses will include urologic cancers, non-malignant hematology disorders, melanoma, and sarcoma. Candidates may be required to float to other clinics as needed. Experience with electronic medical record systems is required. Special equipment requirements include bringing a personal stethoscope.
