Senior Counsel (Immediate Hire)

Position

We have an immediate opening for a Higher Education Regulatory and Accreditation Senior Counsel with at least eight years of experience preferred, including three years specialized in higher education regulatory matters. We will consider candidates for any of our offices including our virtual office, The Link. This position has the possibility of a reduced billable-hour requirement and flexible schedule.

Responsibilities

Advise and represent clients on complex regulatory matters within the higher education sector, including Title IV, financial aid, accreditation, structural changes/ownership changes (mergers & acquisitions), and general higher education compliance.

Contribute to the development of firm knowledge and educational resources related to higher education law.

Independently manage projects, interface with clients on specific issues, and direct junior attorneys and paralegals.

Occasionally travel to client meetings and conferences.

Qualifications

Preferred: at least eight years of experience, including three years specialized in higher education regulatory matters.

Demonstrated experience with Title IV, accreditation, and/or institutional structural changes/ownership within the higher education landscape.

Previous work with higher education regulatory agencies, accrediting agencies, and/or in-house at educational institutions; preferred experience includes privacy law (beyond FERPA), research, healthcare, consumer finance, student funding mechanisms, accreditor recognition requirements, or foreign school operations.

Excellent academic credentials, commitment to the community, superior interpersonal skills, and a demonstrated record of working well under pressure.

Exceptional judgment, ability to handle multiple projects, excellent communication and writing abilities, and the ability to articulate legal strategies and courses of action.

Active bar license in the state corresponding with the office or commitment to obtaining one as soon as possible.

Proactive, dynamic, and entrepreneurial individuals with varied backgrounds, interests, and experience for a diverse candidate pool.

Compensation Ranges

Pursuant to applicable state laws, the compensation range for this position in California, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Washington, and Washington, D.C. is $170,000-$350,000, in Colorado is $175,000-$270,000, and in Minnesota is $170,000-$300,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salaries in all other markets will vary depending on market data.
