Independent Contractor - Plumber

PlumberQualifications: Has a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate Has at least five years journey-level experience in the plumbing trade Has a valid driver's license Has a valid Kentucky plumbing license Has ability to read and follow written directions Has the physical ability to perform heavy physical labor Has the ability to lift and move objects weighing at least 75 pounds numerous times per day Exhibits personal habits in keeping with the assigned responsibilities Demonstrates aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities Has demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and area contractors Has demonstrated ability to read and understand building blueprints, plans, and working drawingsReports To: Buildings and Grounds Foreman/Director of Facility ManagementJob Goal: To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all timesPerformance Responsibilities: Be familiar with and follow written codes and regulations, policies, procedures, work orders and directions from supervisor related to job responsibilities Perform plumbing related projects properly assigned, in accordance with plumbing codes and accepted methods Cuts, threads, assembles and installs pipes, pipe fittings, and valves (metal and non-metal) Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe fittings, using hand and power tools Respond to all properly submitted plumbing construction, repair, renovation, and emergency requests Notify Facility Management office in writing of all projects that cannot be accomplished as planned, being as specific as possible as to reasons Recommend supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains an inventory of district-owned tools, equipment and supplies Secure a purchase order for all authorized purchases Is responsible for the everyday maintenance of vehicles and equipment used Examine district-owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventive maintenance Assume primary responsibility for the safe condition of plumbing, piping, fixtures, fittings, drainage systems, equipment, and similar plumbing elements in the facilities owned or operated by the district Determine which repair jobs may be performed by plumber, custodians, and maintenance workers on the staff and which must be performed by outside contracts and advises the Foreman of Buildings and Grounds or designee accordingly Supervise all plumbing repair work performed by district personnel Instruct custodians and maintenance workers on proper methods of procedure and proper use of tools in plumbing repair work Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisorTerms of Employment: Hourly (Grade 22) 8 per day 40 per wk. 260 days 12 months Board approved 10/12/2017
