The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of West Virginia is seeking experienced, highly qualified litigators who have a strong criminal prosecution background, with the intellect and proven ability to handle federal criminal litigation, for the position of Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA). The positions offer a unique and exciting experience for highly motivated team players with the desire to engage in challenging and important litigation. Working in the Criminal Division, the AUSAs will be part of a dedicated team helping to prosecute federal criminal cases and prepare appeals.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, you must certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System, or are exempt from having to do so under the Selective Service Law. Superior oral and writing skills, along with strong research and interpersonal skills, are essential. Applicants must possess excellent communication and courtroom skills and demonstrate the ability to work professionally with other attorneys, support staff, and client agencies.
Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. holidays; telework; life insurance; and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System. Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses will not be authorized.
