Full-Time Remote Attorney

Job Overview
Deputy Attorney General IV - Tort & Condemnation Section (Eminent Domain and Inverse Condemnation). This permanent, full‑time position provides trial and appellate representation for state agencies in civil rights, tort, eminent domain, and inverse condemnation matters. Salary: $11,993.00-$16,096.00 per month.

Key Responsibilities

Litigate and try difficult, sensitive cases, including government tort liability, civil rights, personal injury, medical malpractice, dangerous condition of public property, eminent domain, inverse condemnation, mass flood, and fire actions.

Work under time constraints, client and department guidelines, and uphold ethical and professional standards.

Communicate and write effectively; produce pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.

Conduct research, prepare trial materials, and advise senior officers on legal strategy.

Travel occasionally to remote locations within the state.

Minimum Qualifications

Admitted to practice law in California with a strong record of trial and appellate advocacy.

At least 5 years of experience in civil litigation, with particular emphasis on eminent domain, inverse condemnation, and related tort matters.

Excellent oral advocacy, analytical, and research skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and standard office technology.

Eligible for State employment (current or obtaining list, LEAP, SROA, or Surplus eligibility).

Desired Qualifications

Experience with complex, mass‑party litigation in both state and federal courts.

Knowledge of Water Code and construction litigation.

Ability to evaluate and recommend expert witnesses.

Strong writing and briefing skills; experience drafting and arguing pre‑trial motions.

Working Conditions
Position may be eligible for telework; in‑person attendance may be required based on operational needs.
