General Statement of Job
Under occasional supervision, performs fire suppression duties and provides emergency medical treatment at the EMT or Paramedic level on assigned shift. Performs duties in accordance with all established policies, procedures and medical protocol. Maintains and prepares required records and reports. Participates in training, fire prevention and education programs as required. Reports to the Lieutenant.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Respond to emergency fire, medical, hazardous material, auto accident and other emergencies, performing fire suppression duties to protect lives and property.

Respond to emergency medical calls, providing basic, intermediate and advanced life support treatment, including CPR, splint application, wound treatment, medication administration, intubation, defibrillation, etc., and transport patients to appropriate medical facilities.

Maintain radio communications with dispatch, hospitals and other agencies, provide guidance to first responders and bystanders, and determine the need for backup assistance.

Complete required records and forms documenting patient treatment, deliver reports, and maintain accurate documentation.

Respond to requests for emergency rescue, hazardous materials spills, environmental emergencies.

Assist with vehicle inspection, maintenance, inventory and restocking of equipment and supplies.

Participate in general fire prevention, public education, employee training, and station tours.

Provide leadership and instruction to new and/or subordinate personnel.

Keep abreast of new technology, methods and regulations, and attend relevant meetings, conferences, and continuing education.

Remain on call 24 hours per day for emergencies, prepare reports and records.

Operate vehicles, ambulance, fire engine, and other equipment; operate various office machines, computers, radios, phones.

Additional Job Functions

Perform station maintenance duties, including housekeeping and minor repairs; clean equipment and vehicles.

Collect and properly dispose hazardous waste materials.

Prepare pre-fire plans, test and maintain hydrants, pumps and hoses; order and inventory station supplies.

Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

At least 18 years old and able to lawfully work in the U.S.

State of Florida Certificate of Compliance Fire Standards (FF I and II).

State of Florida Paramedic Certification.

Current CPR Card.

Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification).

EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) 16‑hour certificate.

Valid Florida Driver's License.

High School Diploma or GED.

FEMA course completion certificates: IC‑100, 200, 700, 800.

National fingerprint‑based criminal history check coordinated by the Kissimmee Police Department per CJIS standards.

Completion and recertification every two years of Criminal Justice Information Systems security awareness training via CJIS Online coordinated by the Kissimmee Police Department.

Physical Requirements
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including emergency vehicles, pumps, firefighting and medical equipment, computers, telephone/radio, etc. Must be able to exert up to twenty pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. Physical demands exceed those for sedentary work; must remain on feet for periods of time, withstand uncomfortable and/or dangerous conditions at fire scenes, and perform manual tasks. Must lift, position and/or carry weights of up to 100 pounds.

Knowledge of Job
Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Fire Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of a Firefighter. Understands the role of the position in relation to city operations and other governmental agencies. Knowledgeable in laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertinent to the duties. Knowledge of fire science, hydraulics, emergency medical technology, medical reporting, mechanics, electrical systems, and operating emergency vehicles safely. Able to determine and ensure safety on the fireground. Skilled in first aid, CPR, and advanced life support methods. Proficient in the use of EMT/Paramedic equipment and protocols. Able to recognize signs and symptoms of illnesses and injuries, make sound decisions, and perform duties under adverse environmental conditions. Able to provide effective leadership, supervision, and technical training to co‑workers as assigned. Able to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments, learn and utilize new skills, and communicate effectively with agencies, the public, and city departments. Capable of making public presentations and handling necessary calculations and computer use for records maintenance.
