Location: Southwest Side-1340 W 71st St (Daniel S Wentworth School)

Salary Range: $64,469.94 to $82,839.39

Job Description
Under the supervision of the school principal, responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes, and performs related duties as required.

Responsibilities include instructional planning, lesson planning, establishing positive learning standards, evaluating pupil progress, maintaining accurate records, implementing instructional methods, participating in new teaching techniques, creating bulletin boards and interest areas, applying curriculum knowledge, improving student attendance, promoting anti‑vandalism programs, maintaining classroom rules, keeping attendance records and seating charts, encouraging growth, ensuring fairness, conducting conferences with parents and staff, communicating academic progress, attending in‑service and staff meetings, coordinating field trips, and participating in extra‑curricular activities.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience

Successful completion of all student teaching requirements and coursework needed for a teaching certificate issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.

License Requirements
Teachers must possess at least one of the following valid teaching licenses issued by the Illinois State Board of Education: Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS), properly endorsed for this position.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Knowledge of subject matter consistent with state certification requirements and contemporary teaching practices.

Knowledge of classroom and behavior management techniques.

Ability to modify instruction to meet student needs.

Ability to collaborate with faculty and administration on instruction.

Ability to work effectively with pupils, parents, staff, and community representatives.

Knowledge of the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.

Skill in applying contemporary teaching practices, oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and professional judgment.

Physical Requirements
Light Work: Exerting up to twenty pounds of force occasionally, or up to ten pounds frequently. Physical demands include stooping, reaching, handling objects occasionally, talking and hearing constantly, use of near visual acuity, and occasional use of visual acuity.
