Bridge/Structural Engineering

Office Location: Position Description: The location of the position is flexible and can be performed from any of our Apex offices, but the preferred location is our Minnetonka office. Primary responsibilities include working as a key project team member on bridge and structural project from the preliminary phase through design and construction. A Structural-Bridge Engineer shall be capable of independently and collaboratively contributing to the design and development of structural project plans and specifications, while working with other team members. This person will report to Apex’s Lead Structural Bridge Engineer. The candidate will be expected to attend in person, key client, and project related meetings. Independently perform bridge engineering related calculations, analysis, and design tasks.

Efficiently work with technicians to assemble complete and accurate engineering plans.

Work efficiently to meet deadlines and complete projects within a given amount of time.

Assist with technical proposals for project pursuits with project managers and market leaders.

Effective communication skills will be required in settings such as project meetings, informational meetings, construction notifications, etc.

Understand and follow company employee handbook and mandated safety policies.

Perform responsibilities in a conscientious, legal, and ethical manner with a strong attention to detail.

Participate in professional organizations and community leadership programs, as developed with supervisor.

Travel and out of town stays may be required; may work overtime especially during deadlines for submittals.

A Bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, structural), with 2+ years of bridge engineering experience.

The ability to become a licensed engineer to practice structural engineering specifically to bridge design in the state of primary practice within two years of hire is preferred.

Experience with transportation projects and public agencies located in Minnesota and North Dakota is preferred.

Experience with in-service bridge inspection would be considered a bonus.

Proficient using Microsoft Windows/Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Ability to operate a computer under normal ergonomic office conditions.

Required to regularly work in an outdoors environment.

Must be able to work required hours in the office or offsite.
