Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU/PCU - Nights

CLIN NURSE 2 - 5 WEST TRAUMA PCU Pay Scale: $66.25 - $92.86 per hour (annual full pay range $138,330 - $193,892). 90% appointment.
Work Schedule: Nights, 12‑hour shifts, Sunday-Saturday.
Work Site: Hillcrest.
Appointment Type: Career. 5 total openings.
Union: NX Contract.
Description Under general supervision, the nurse identifies and implements interventions, evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, and directs and acts as resource to other nursing team members. Promotes compliance with policies and fosters trust and collegial relationships.
This experienced nurse position is located in the 5 West Trauma PCU (24‑bed intermediate level care for medical‑surgical patients) and the 4E Trauma Recovery Unit (15‑bed overflow). Patients are received from the trauma bay, downgraded from the Surgical ICU, and occasional overflow medical‑IMU level care patients. Common diagnoses include traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic injury, alcohol and substance withdrawal, and delirium.
Minimum Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California.
BART/BLS and ACLS certifications at hire with commitment to obtain UCSD ART within six (6) months.
One (1+) recent year(s) of acute care RN experience in ICU, PCU, and/or IMU.
Ability to function in a high‑paced environment with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong critical thinking, de‑escalation, and problem‑solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities.
Ability to perform under pressure and handle urgent situations with accuracy, expediency, and tact.
Ability to demonstrate individualized care to vulnerable populations.
Preferred Qualifications BSN and/or MSN.
CCRN or PCCN specialty certifications.
Two (2)+ recent years of acute care RN experience in ICU, PCU, and/or IMU.
Trauma PCU experience.
Med‑surg experience.
Psychiatric RN experience.
Rehabilitation RN experience.
Bilingual: English/Spanish.
Experience with trauma patients, Trauma RN experience, or relevant certifications.
Special Conditions Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call, and various locations based on the 24‑hour Medical Center's business needs.
Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
Selected candidate may be hired at the CNIII level pending review and approval by the Nurse Executive Council.
Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $138,330 - $193,892 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%).
Hourly Equivalent: $66.25 - $92.86.
Compliance & Policies If employed, graduates must comply with the University of California's Policy on Vaccination Programs. Vaccination requirements may be amended or revised.
Life‑support certifications (BLS, NRP, ACLS, etc.) must include hands‑on practice and in‑person skill assessment; online‑only certification is not acceptable.
