Position Summary

The Service Supervisor supports front-end operations by helping ensure exceptional customer service, efficient checkout experiences, and effective daily execution of store service standards. This position provides leadership to cashiers, courtesy clerks, and service desk associates while assisting with customer concerns, operational compliance, staffing support, and front-end performance. The Service Supervisor serves as a key leader in maintaining a positive, customer-focused environment and may assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of store management.

Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Front-End Operations

Deliver outstanding customer service and foster a welcoming shopping environment.

Monitor checkout operations to ensure efficient customer flow and minimal wait times.

Assist customers with questions, concerns, returns, exchanges, and service-related issues.

Respond to and resolve customer complaints professionally and promptly.

Promote company loyalty programs, digital services, and special promotions.

Team Leadership

Provide daily direction and support to front-end associates.

Assist with training, coaching, and developing cashiers, courtesy clerks, and service desk personnel.

Monitor associate performance and reinforce service expectations.

Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.

Support scheduling efforts and help ensure adequate coverage during peak business periods.

Cash Handling & Compliance

Ensure proper cash handling procedures are followed.

Assist with register accountability, audits, and balancing activities.

Monitor compliance with company policies, operational procedures, and security standards.

Support loss prevention initiatives and help identify operational risks.

Maintain confidential handling of financial and customer information.

Operational Excellence

Support execution of front-end operational standards and company programs.

Ensure checkout lanes, service areas, and front-end spaces remain clean, organized, and stocked.

Monitor supply levels and communicate operational needs to management.

Assist with implementation of new procedures, promotions, and service initiatives.

Help maintain a safe environment for customers and associates.

Problem Solving & Customer Recovery

Serve as a resource for associates when escalated customer situations arise.

Make informed decisions to resolve service issues while protecting company interests.

Identify opportunities to improve customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Assist management with investigations involving customer service concerns and operational discrepancies.

Store Support

Collaborate with department leaders to ensure a consistent customer experience throughout the store.

Support store opening, closing, and operational activities as assigned.

Serve as Manager-on-Duty when designated by store leadership.

Assist in achieving store goals related to customer satisfaction, service standards, and operational performance.

Qualifications Required

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous retail, grocery, or customer service experience.

Strong customer service and communication skills.

Ability to lead and motivate associates in a fast-paced environment.

Basic math, cash handling, and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred

Previous supervisory or leadership experience.

Experience working in front-end operations, customer service, or retail management.

Knowledge of cash office procedures and operational compliance standards.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of up to 30 pounds.

Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive tasks.

Ability to move throughout all areas of the store as needed.

Manual dexterity necessary for operating registers and service equipment.
