The Metrologist will calibrate, repair, and maintain precision measuring equipment, such as electronic, electro-mechanical, physical, dimensional, mechanical, and optical Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE). Also provides engineering support to Calibration Specialists within the calibration laboratory.
Interprets complex equipment specifications to develop reliable calibration methods, procedures, data sheets, and test reports. Maintains and updates existing inventory of calibration procedures and forms.
Performs analysis to determine measurement process capabilities and measurement uncertainties.
Identifies, recommends, and evaluates test and measuring equipment to maintain and improve laboratory capabilities.
Assists technicians with technical issues and problems, including troubleshooting broken equipment and resolving measurement issues. This includes in-place calibrations as well as in-lab calibrations.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, or a science field. May be substituted with 10 years of experience and a related Associate's degree or DOD metrology training.
Five years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and engineering support of complex measuring systems in a metrology laboratory. Experience shall include inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, aligning, calibrating, and certifying TMDE and laboratory working standards using safe working practices and utilizing required documents and procedures.
Experience developing detailed calibration procedures and complex uncertainty analyses
S. citizen with the ability to meet background investigation requirements relevant to the position, consistent with applicable laws.
Must be willing to comply with pre-employment and random drug testing, in accordance with company policy.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Good working knowledge of the calibration and maintenance of electronic, electro-mechanical, physical, dimensional, mechanical, and optical Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) and calibration laboratory measurement standards.
Good working knowledge of electrical, electronics, electromechanical, mechanical, physics, optics, and thermal principles; mathematics and number systems.
Knowledge of electrical theory, electronics, and/or physics, and operating principles of TMDE.
Proficiency in troubleshooting techniques, calibration traceability, metrology techniques, and safe laboratory practices.
Competent with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Environmental Conditions/Physical Requirements
Occasionally works at customer sites, including outdoors.
