Teaching roles are 10-month positions, which are exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Our teachers value the autonomy they have at Capital City to design a curriculum that is dynamic, personal and exciting. Elementary Associate Teachers at Capital City: Supporting the classroom teacher with instruction. Instructional duties and roles will be discussed and mutually agreed upon by the Assistant Teacher and classroom teacher. Instructional duties may include: working with small groups of students, working individually with students, assessing student learning, and assisting with the planning and preparation of classroom lessons and activities.

Participating in weekly Consult Time with the Inclusion Teacher and other inclusion providers to learn how to best support students with special needs.

Supporting our inclusion program by meeting the individual needs of students as specified in student IEPs and in plans developed and discussed in Consult Time and Child Study. Supporting English Language Learners using practices and approaches suggested at Consult Time and staff training.

Assisting with the planning of learning expeditions and expedition projects.

Planning and supervising fieldwork and community service that support learning expeditions.

Assuming lead teacher responsibilities when the classroom teacher is absent.

Participating in parent-teacher conferences.

Meeting at least twice weekly with the classroom teacher to plan for instruction.

Meeting regularly with the classroom teacher to reflect on progress and gain feedback.

Participating in outside professional development activities to support school-wide and individual goals.

Capital City seeks to employ experienced and credentialed associate teachers.

Associate’s degree or 2 years towards a Bachelor’s Degree and a passing score of the Paraprofessional certification. Experience working with students and/or children.

Spanish speakers are desired.

In addition to the above requirements, teachers must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a criminal background check.
