Elementary Teacher - Special Education/Resource Teacher

Job Summary The Elementary Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with disabilities in grades K-5 and mild interventions. This position develops and implements specially designed instruction based on student Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and ensures students have access to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment. The teacher collaborates with general education staff, related service providers, and families to support student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
Essential Functions Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for assigned students.
Provide specialized instruction tailored to meet students’ academic, behavioral, and functional needs.
Use data-driven instruction and assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusion and access to grade-level curriculum.
Implement positive behavior supports and interventions aligned with student behavior plans.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress, services, and compliance requirements.
Participate in case conferences, eligibility meetings, and IEP meetings.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs.
Adapt instructional materials and strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
Support students in developing academic, social, communication, and life skills.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education regulations.
Work collaboratively with instructional assistants, related service providers, and school staff.
Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
Qualifications Valid Indiana teaching license in Special Education (P-12 or Elementary endorsement required).
Strong understanding of special education law, IEP development, and instructional best practices.
Ability to differentiate instruction for a wide range of student needs and abilities.
Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with staff, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered learning environment.
Proficiency with instructional technology and student data systems preferred.
Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and school building.
Ability to supervise and assist students in a variety of learning environments.
Ability to lift instructional materials up to 25 pounds.
Ability to respond to student needs, including behavioral and physical support as appropriate.
