Dentist- Permanent/Full-Time

Duties Description This Dentist 2 will provide professional dental care for individuals receiving services by diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth and gums. The person in this position will perform a full range of professional dental duties in connection with the treatment of dental diseases or dental health problems requiring corrective restorative or preventive measures and will be involved in dental health cases with individuals who experience challenging behaviors and/or may have communication challenges.
Conducting examinations of individuals teeth and surrounding oral structures utilizing x-rays, mouth mirrors and other diagnostic procedures and instruments to determine pathological or irregular conditions. Treating dental diseases, injuries and malfunctions of teeth and gums. Performing restoration of simple and compound cavities. Performing oral surgery commensurate with professional qualifications. Treating teeth, mouth and gum infections with appropriate drugs or by surgery. Maintaining written records of individuals dental treatments. Advising individuals about dental health practices. Instructing and directs paraprofessional staff in the performance of auxiliary duties. Development of policy and procedures relating to dental department and care. #Possession of a license and current registration to practice dentistry in New York State, and one year of service as a Dentist 1.

A valid license and registration to practice dentistry in New York State AND three years of full-time post licensure dentistry experience, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity in a dental health care setting.

Transfer Qualifications: Candidates must have permanent competitive status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer.

Additional Comments This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.
