Insurance Representative

High school diploma or GED
One year of clerical experience, preferably in a medical office
Relevant education may substitute for one year of clerical experience
Knowledge of medical office procedures and insurance policies
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, CPT, and ICD-9 coding
Computer and word-processing skills
Manual dexterity for computer use
Review claim denials and verify coding accuracy
Research coding requirements using appropriate resources
Follow up on unpaid claims based on age and balance
Resolve claim-processing problems
Appeal justified claim denials
Document follow-up activity in IDX
Maintain current insurance-carrier information
Monitor insurance-industry changes
Notify staff of relevant policy updates
