Positions in this job family conduct investigations related to suspected violations of federal, state, or local laws to prevent or solve crimes. The position mental and physical stamina and strength to work in all environmental and meteorological conditions.
The functions performed in this job family will vary by level, unit and organization, but may include the following:

Investigates pertinent criminal and/or regulatory violations, all defenses and/or the background of a client and relevant individuals as directed
Prepares investigative prosecutorial reports and drafts and executes legal documents as requested
Provides law enforcement assistance to other local, state, and federal agencies when requested
Levels are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the level of expertise required for completion of work assignments, and the responsibility assigned for the supervision of others.
This is the career level of the job family, where incumbents are responsible for performing a full range of professional activities at a full performance level. May provide training or assistance to lower-level employees. Abilities required at this level include ability to write legal documents; present findings in a clear and concise manner either in writing or in person.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Positions at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will be provided with radio, camera, American Board Medicolegal Death Investigators (ABMDI) yearly membership fee, vehicle monthly lease and fuel, clothing, laptop, and cell phone contract. Must function in accordance with State Statue, agency policies, and ABMDI.
Some agencies may require experience in a specific field of work.
