Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) – Nights. 13-week travel nursing contract in Mechanicsville, VA (23116) for experienced cardiac/telemetry RNs. Must hold Virginia or compact RN license, BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
Join a dedicated team as a Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Medical Stepdown Unit (PCU) in Mechanicsville, Virginia — a short drive from Richmond. This 13-week travel contract offers a chance to practice acute care nursing in a busy 24-bed cardiac/stepdown setting while enjoying a welcoming community with easy access to urban amenities and scenic countryside.
Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,020 – $2,130

Cardiac Medical Stepdown Unit / Progressive Care Unit (24 beds) — cardiac telemetry

Contract Duration: 13 weeks (6/22/2026 – 9/19/2026)

Shift: 12-hour nights (required every other weekend and major holidays)

Type: Travel Nurse, On-site

No local candidates — must live outside a 50-mile radius

Current RN license in Virginia or compact state (Registered Nurse)

Must pass EKG exam at orientation (study guide provided) — telemetry/ECG competency preferred

Proficient in lab draws and acute care skills

Minimum 1 year RN experience required; 6 months acute care/hospital experience preferred

Experience with cardiac patients, drips, and telemetry monitoring strongly preferred

Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate treatment effectiveness

Administer medications safely and in accordance with hospital policies and protocols

Coordinate patient care and serve as primary point of contact for families and interdisciplinary teams

Manage patients with cardiac, surgical, renal, and respiratory conditions, including BiPAP and other noninvasive ventilatory support

Perform and manage cardiac drips and titrations, insulin drips, and continuous cardiac rhythm monitoring

Use bedside equipment including Alaris infusion pumps, PCA pumps, GlucoStabilizer, bedside cardiac monitors, and patient lifts

Act as a patient safety advocate and participate in unit quality improvement initiatives

Respond confidently to rapidly changing patient conditions and emergencies (acute care, telemetry, code response)

Collaborate with spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics teams as needed
