Cardiac Surgery Nurse Coordinator

Methodist Hospital, part of SA Health, is a leading healthcare provider in San Antonio, specializing in a wide range of medical services from emergency care to specialized surgery. We are seeking a Cardiovascular Coordinator Registered Nurse to join our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will serve as a clinical expert and coordinator for cardiovascular patients, working collaboratively with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, and support staff to ensure safe, timely, and high‑quality care across the continuum.
The Cardiovascular Coordinator RN is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the care of patients with cardiac and vascular conditions, including pre‑procedural, intra‑procedural, and post‑procedural phases. You will oversee patient flow for cardiovascular procedures, support evidence‑based practice, and help standardize protocols and care pathways for conditions such as acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, arrhythmias, and structural heart disease. You will collaborate closely with cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, cath lab staff, ICU/step‑down nurses, and case management to facilitate optimal clinical outcomes, appropriate length of stay, and successful transitions of care.
Key aspects of this role include conducting comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, interpreting clinical data, and using critical thinking to anticipate patient needs. You will provide direct patient care as needed, assist with complex cardiovascular procedures, and serve as a resource to bedside nurses on cardiac monitoring, hemodynamic management, and use of cardiovascular medications and devices. You will educate patients and families on cardiovascular disease, procedures, medications, lifestyle modification, and follow‑up care, ensuring that teaching is individualized and culturally sensitive. You will also participate in community and outpatient education initiatives as needed to support cardiovascular service line goals.
The Cardiovascular Coordinator RN will track and analyze quality metrics related to cardiovascular care, including core measures, readmissions, complications, and patient satisfaction. You will assist with data collection for registries and accreditation programs, identify trends, and collaborate with leadership to develop and implement performance improvement initiatives. You will help maintain and update policies, order sets, and clinical practice guidelines, and contribute to staff education, training, and competency validation related to cardiovascular care and equipment.
