TEMPORARY Lead Custodian

Since 1965, Didlake has served thousands of people with significant disabilities by providing training, job placement, employment opportunities, and day support services. The Lead Janitor provides hands-on support and guidance to individuals with significant disabilities, helping them develop workplace, communication, and interpersonal skills. The role assists the Janitorial Supervisor with directing and supervising cleaning crews while also performing janitorial duties, with responsibilities split approximately 50/50 between supervision and cleaning tasks.

cleans floors using brooms, mops, and powered cleaning machines; washes windows, door panels, and sills; and replenishes janitor closets.

Assigns tasks and issues supplies and equipment to employees, inspects completed work for conformance to standards, and requisitions supplies and equipment from Supervisor, APM, or PM.

Trains employees on how to do assigned work and in using equipment and supplies appropriately; addresses complaints and resolves problems of employees and customers; Fills in for general cleaning staff as needed and operates power equipment such as two-stage snow blowers. When specified in the contract, during inclement weather, provides proper upkeep by removing snow from walkways, building entrances and dock ramps, and spreading snow/ice melting chemicals.

Completes and maintains all Didlake required training and is responsible for following safety standards and guidelines in the proper use of the equipment and other activities.

You bring at least one year of relevant experience in commercial custodial or maintenance services, knowledge of general cleaning products and equipment, and the ability to support and retrain staff on safe operating procedures. Strong communication, sound judgment, adaptability, and the ability to interact effectively and supportively with people with disabilities are essential.

High school diploma/GED preferred.

One (1) year relevant experience in commercial custodial or maintenance services required.

Knowledge of general cleaning products and equipment required.

Ability to remind and retrain staff on standard operating procedures and safe operation of equipment.

Must possess a valid driver's license, have an excellent driving record, and be insurable on the corporate automobile insurance policy. Ability to interact effectively and supportively with people with disabilities.
