DIETITIAN - DIETICIANS ( FULL TIME)

The Clinical Dietitian works closely with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate evidence‑based medical nutrition therapy that is integrated and compatible with the patient‑focused medical goals. Primary responsibilities include applying the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), performing nutrition‑focused physical exams, malnutrition assessments, nutrition diagnoses, interventions, and monitoring and evaluating patients’ progress. The Clinical Dietitian uses practice‑specific dietetics and evidence‑based practice protocols to determine nutrition interventions, manages resources cost‑effectively, and participates in compliance and quality improvement efforts to ensure safe and effective nutrition care. The role integrates into team conferences, provides in‑service education, contributes to policies, supports community‑based nutrition programs, maintains professional competency, and precepts interns and clinical dietitians in core responsibilities.

Acts as a resource person for the specialty team and serves as a liaison between medical specialties and ancillary services.

Assists in achieving compliance with accreditation and regulatory agency standards.

Attends medical rounds, patient care conferences, and continuing education/staff meetings and participates in quality improvement initiatives.

Develops, implements, and monitors nutrition care plans and participates in discharge planning. Documents all aspects of nutrition care and demonstrates compliance with regulatory standards.

Participates in the training of clinical nutrition intern students by acting as a preceptor throughout the year as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree required from a U.S. regionally accredited university or college with coursework approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).

Master’s in a related dietitian field for new graduates becoming licensed after 01/01/2024.

Completion of a Coordinated Program in Dietetics or Dietetic Internship accredited by ACEND of no less than 900 hours (1200 hours for programs beginning 2012).

Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission of Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Licensed as a Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics and Nutrition.

Some positions may require credentials for billing purposes (e.g., No prior experience required except for specific positions.

For UNCMC Cardiac Rehab: Two years as a clinical dietitian in a cardiac rehabilitation program or outpatient cardiology clinic.

Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps.

Knowledge and application of medical nutrition therapy.

Effective communication in written and verbal form to patients, public, hospital, medical staff, and physicians.

Ability to perform independently on assigned patient care units.

General knowledge of nutrient analysis, word processing, and spreadsheet software.
