Job Description
Position Overview The Dietitian & Nutritionist will provide clinical nutrition services within a psychiatric care setting while ensuring compliance with OMH regulations and facility standards. The role is responsible for coordinating nutritional care documentation, conducting assessments, participating in interdisciplinary treatment planning, and supporting the overall nutritional health and safety of individuals receiving psychiatric services. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical nutrition knowledge, documentation skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary care teams.
Key Responsibilities • Coordinate and maintain medical records related to clinical nutrition services. • Ensure medical records accurately reflect the nutritional status of individuals and comply with OMH regulations. • Complete annual nutritional assessments and required progress notes in a timely manner. • Prepare and maintain individual nutrition notes based on priority risk levels and care plans. • Attend treatment team meetings and discharge planning meetings to provide nutritional recommendations and support continuity of care. • Process diet changes and maintain updated monthly diet lists and computerized nutrition records. • Conduct nutritional education groups for clients when assigned. • Ensure compliance with OMH regulations related to nutritional health, safety, and dietary standards. • Perform diet office duties in the absence of the Diet Technician as needed. • Recommend dietary modifications and nutritional interventions to address identified concerns and improve patient outcomes. • Collaborate with treatment teams regarding maintenance and improvement of nutritional status for individuals receiving care. • Maintain accurate documentation and support quality assurance initiatives related to nutrition services.
Work Schedule & Conditions • Schedule: Monday - Friday • Shift Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM EST • Full-Time Preferred: 37.5 - 40 hours per week • Part-Time Option: 20 - 24 hours per week may be considered for highly qualified candidates • Overtime: Not required • Travel: Not required • Holidays: Not required to work in New York State holidays
Qualifications & Requirements • Registered Dietitian (RD) credential required • Valid license/certification to practice in the State of New York, if applicable • Experience in clinical nutrition, psychiatric, behavioral health, hospital, or residential healthcare settings preferred • Strong knowledge of nutritional assessment, dietary planning, and clinical documentation standards • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary treatment teams • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills • Commitment to patient-centered care, safety, and regulatory compliance
