Head of Project Management (Construction)

The Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, completion, customer satisfaction, and financial performance of assigned commercial construction projects. This position coordinates with customers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, design professionals, and internal teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements and Varney standards.

Manage commercial mechanical and/or plumbing projects from pre‑construction through completion and closeout.

Develop and maintain project schedules, workflows, budgets, and project documentation using construction management software such as Procore and scheduling tools such as Microsoft Projects.

Monitor project financial performance, including budgets, job costs, forecasting, billings, and change orders.

Review plans, specifications, contracts, and subcontracts to ensure project scope and requirements are understood and managed.

Prepare, negotiate, and manage contracts, subcontracts, change orders, RFIs, and other project documentation.

Provide monthly project reports and communicate project status, financial performance, schedule, and risks.

Provide leadership and direction to Project Superintendents and project team members.

Coordinate with owners, general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and design professionals to resolve project issues.

Monitor projects for compliance with Varney policies, quality standards, plans, specifications, and contract requirements.

Participate in pre‑job planning, project reviews, and closeout meetings.

Promote strong customer relationships, quality workmanship, safety, and successful projects outcomes.

This position is classified Full‑Time (Exempt); on site/in person. Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial construction, with demonstrated experience managing projects and/or project‑related responsibilities.

Experience in mechanical and/or plumbing construction or a closely related MEP construction environment.

Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects, priorities, schedules, and activities simultaneously.

Experience with project financial management, including budgets, job costing, forecasting, cost control, and/or project financial reporting.

Experience supervising, leading, or coordinating project personnel, including Project Superintendents and/or other construction team members.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Experience with construction project management software such as Procore and/or similar platforms.

Knowledge of construction processes, project management principles, contract administration, and commercial construction practices.

Strong communication, organizational, time management, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and other project documents.

Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including customers, general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, employees, and design professionals.

Demonstrate strong ownership and accountability for assigned projects and outcomes.

Demonstrate financial awareness and an understanding of how project decisions affect profitability.

Demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to identify and resolve problems before they negatively impact a project.

Maintain a customer‑focused approach while balancing project scope, schedule, cost, quality, and contractual requirements.

Have 7+ years of commercial construction experience, particularly in mechanical and/or plumbing construction.

Have demonstrated experience independently managing commercial construction projects from pre‑construction through closeout.

Have experience with Procore or similar construction project management software.

Have experience with project scheduling software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms.

Have experience with job costing, project forecasting, financial reporting, and change order management.

Have prior supervisory or leadership experience within a construction environment.

Have experience working with general contractors, construction managers, owners, and design professionals.

Have experience with MEP construction estimating, project planning, or contract administration.
