Meat Cutter Job Description:

Primary Objective: To perform cutting and preparation, meat stocking and rotation, and provide customer service and department cleaning duties. To contribute toward ensuring a positive shopping environment for customers and a positive working environment for employees.

Nature and Scope: Emphasis in this position is to meet daily production needs and quality standards in meat cutting and preparation. Primary learning challenge is learning retail cutting techniques for all meat cuts, proficiency with the saw and merchandising techniques. This position requires ongoing heavy lifting, standing, operation of meat equipment, exposure to cold temperatures and wet surfaces, judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interactions, listening skills, and reading. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. The Meat Manager or person in charge provides assignments and work direction.

Essential Position Functions:

Perform meat cutting and preparation Follow daily cutting lists and complete work in allotted time

Demonstrate proficiency in sawing, boning, cutting, trimming, grinding, weighing, traying and wrapping techniques

Maintain Sendik's Fine Foods quality and trim standards

Assist customers with requests and information Ensure customer satisfaction

Assist with special orders, product information and location, also service counter

Maintain meat cases Pull outdated product and properly rotate

Restock as needed to maintain maximum selection

Follow merchandising plan

Clean and sanitize equipment, cases, work area, and sales floor Break down equipment according to procedures

Continuously monitor area and sales floor for cleanliness

Utilize personal protective devices (rain suit, over boots, chemical splash goggles, metal mesh gloves, chemical resistant gloves), as instructed

Receive and process meat shipments correctly Verify product with invoice and log

Ensure product meets quality standards

Follow proper security measures

Keep cooler properly rotated and organized

Assist in placing orders

Assist in training employees

Follow all store and department policies and procedures

Functional Requirements:

Physical Lifting/carrying up to 100 lbs.

Pushing/pulling up to 2000 lbs.

Equipment operation (meat saw, bone scraper, knives, slicer, scales, pallet jack, flat bed, meat grinder, cuber, patty machine, tenderizer, bulker, meat mixer, telephone)

Reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, standing, turning, climbing ladders, walking
