REMOTE Epidemiologist/Clinical Studies

Overview Clinical Research Epidemiologist I (Academic Program Professional 1) — Stanford University, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Rheumatology. The position supports the Immune Behavioral Health (IBH) / PANS Research Team within the Stanford Immune Behavioral Health program. The goal is to develop, implement, and administer the vision, strategy, and goals of the assigned academic entity/program(s) and to conduct epidemiological analyses using data from a large clinical cohort.
Location: Palo Alto, CA (on-site) with potential hybrid or remote considerations. Term: fixed-term, one year at 100% FTE, with possibility of renewal based on funding.
Duties Include Oversee and administer research activities by evaluating academic programs, recommending policy/program changes, and coordinating implementation.
Collect and analyze data, create reports, review trends to determine program effectiveness; formulate and evaluate solutions to meet program goals.
Write and edit content for proposals and publications; assist with development of research grants and summarize data for grant support.
Represent the program as a key contact and subject matter expert; develop communications for internal and external audiences; organize/outreach activities, events, partnerships, training, and conferences; lead workshops and facilitate meetings.
Monitor program expenses, budgets, and finances; make funding recommendations based on spend.
May oversee and train student workers and junior research staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities & Collaboration The incumbent will work under the direction of faculty and a Senior Epidemiologist, collaborating with PI, investigators, research managers, epidemiologists, research analysts, coordinators, students, and trainees. The role includes data analysis (e.g., linear/logistic regression, mixed effects modeling, time-series/survival analyses), manuscript development, and contributing to a positive, confidential research environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (required) Background in clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, or a similar quantitative discipline; experience with large relational databases and statistical analyses.
Proficiency in SQL and/or SAS; experience manipulating large, complex datasets; experience with relational databases; data cleaning and merging; quality/accuracy measures.
Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to mentor others and develop program partnerships and funding sources.
Experience with programming languages such as SQL, Stata, R, and Python is a plus; prior clinical epidemiology experience is required.
Education & Experience (required) Master’s degree (MS, MPH, MSc, etc.) in a relevant field (e.g., psychiatry, infectious disease, pediatrics, public health) and four or more years of relevant experience and training in quantitative research. Experience in statistics or clinical epidemiology is required.
Certifications & Licenses For teaching roles, an advanced degree or certification may be required for some programs.
Physical Requirements Extensive computer work; ability to remain at a desk for extended periods.
Ability to communicate verbally and use on-campus mobility as needed.
On-campus presence; occasional phone use.
Working Conditions Work environment includes an administrative office and a pediatric clinic.
May require extended hours, evenings, or weekends; potential local travel; rare overnight travel.
